Baptla College of Pharmacy

Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh, India

My background...

I received my entire education in Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh, starting with elementary, middle, and high school at Akshar Vidya Bhavan School, pre-university at Bapatla Junior College and graduating with B. Pharm and M. Pharm degrees from Bapatla College of Pharmacy. I am currently an assistant professor at Bapatla College of Pharmacy. I teach inorganic chemistry for 1st year students. Before this, I have also taught physics to grades 8, 9, and 10 at a high school for 4 years.

Along with M. Pharm I also completed a bachelor’s degree in education (B. Ed) from Kasturibai College of Education for Women.

Although, initially, I had interest in teaching, I chose this profession because it was the best option available to me at the time. Bapatla is my hometown and my entire family, as well as my husband’s family, live here.

My approach to teaching...

Teachers play an important role in a student’s development as a person. My teaching style is inspired by my English teacher whose influence on us went beyond the lessons. He motivated us and instilled moral values. I believe that it is important to understand the practical applications of what students learn in any subject. So, I find ways to link the lessons to daily life and everyday situations. This creates interest in the students.

I try to foster relationships with my students outside the class. I am friendly and approachable. However, in class I expect the students to follow my strict standards.

My message to graduating students...

I would encourage them to embrace positive thinking, communicate with confidence, and, whether right or wrong, they should speak up and express what’s on their mind. We learn from our mistakes. They should conquer their fear and speak their mind. While they are learning, they should focus on practical applications of the subject matter. They should understand the subject at a deep level and not at a superficial level.

My Aikyam experience...

The Aikyam experience has taught the students to be curious, aware, think creatively, and communicate their thoughts without inhibition. Activities like daily pondering are making students think about things that they otherwise overlook. It has become a habit for some, and the positive effects of participating in Aikyam can be seen in how student behavior has changed in class as well. As a teacher, we get to see the other side of the students, their thinking, their ideas, and their creativity.
