Aikyam Change Ambassador

Bapatla Women's Engineering College

Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh, India

My background...

I completed my early schooling and pre-university in Tenali, Andhra Pradesh. After that, I graduated from R.V.R & J.C. College of Engineering, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh with a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering. I completed a master’s degree in ECE from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Rajasthan. I completed my doctoral degree at Andhra University in 2008. My research was in the field of image processing.

I have over 30 years of teaching experience. I have been a lecturer, assistant professor, professor, and head of department at several reputable engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh. I was appointed as the principal first at Tenali Engineering College and, subsequently, at Narasaraopeta Engineering College, both in Andhra Pradesh. I have been serving as the principal of Bapatla Women’s Engineering College since 2022.

During my 30+ years of teaching, I have guided 57 undergraduate projects, 35 postgraduate projects, and published over 70 research papers in various journals.

My goal for the students...

The curriculum we follow in our colleges prepares the students very well academically. They gain adequate technical knowledge in their chosen fields through classroom lectures and subject-matter focused labs. What they lack is opportunities for experiential learning, where they must research a topic or an issue outside of the academic setting. They must learn to work collectively as a team, share information and communicate ideas, determine a solution or an outcome they want to achieve, and build a path to achieve it. Like the quote says, “Follow the path. Go where there is no path and begin the trail.” This type of experience will serve them well in their professional lives.

My thoughts on Aikyam...

There is no doubt in my mind that Aikyam fills a critical gap by providing students the opportunity for experiential learning. I see that the students are interested and enthusiastic, the faculty members who serve as facilitators are also motivated to participate in the program. Both students and facilitators improve their skills through participation in the Aikyam program and the mentoring they receive from the Aikyam team.
