Aikyam Change Ambassador

Hippocampus School Rangapur

Rangapur, Telangana, India

My background and why I became a teacher...

I completed bachelor’s degrees in science (B. Sc) and education (B. Ed) from Osmania University, Hyderabad. I have 22 years of experience teaching Telugu to children. I teach children in 7th and 8th grades. I love being a teacher and teaching is my passion. I enjoy spending time with my students, and they appear to enjoy the time they spend with me. That is very satisfying to me.

My experience as a teacher...

I have been with the Hippocampus School in Rangapur for 2 years and before that when it was NATCO High School for 15 years. To be a good teacher, I have learnt so many things myself.  For example, how to use different teaching methods like activity-based teaching, using dramas, poems to engage the students and how to make sure that all children, no matter their level, actively learn. I believe that as a teacher, you learn, you teach, and you provide a valuable service to society.

When I am not teaching...

I enjoy singing light music.

My role model...

The teacher who taught me science when I was in St. Pious School is my role model. Even at that time, she used interesting activities to engage all her students. She was very patient and bonded with her students very well. I try to be like her as a teacher myself.

My experience with Aikyam...

I am excited to be part of the Aikyam program as a facilitator. The students that participate also like the activities and the project they are working on. I was impressed by how the students were quick to identify many societal problems and chose what they wanted to work on themselves. By watching them and listening to them, I also get a lot of ideas. You can see that the children are thinking and are very involved in the project. Aikyam is teaching them to bring their own ideas, and not just follow each other or what is on the internet.
